Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Secretary’s Office of Safety ‘Safety Academy’
Despite the recent expansion of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC)’s employee safety and health program, employee turnover has meant knowledge of the program varies widely among district personnel. District safety coordinators are the primary staff involved in employee safety and health, however, all employees have a responsibility to lead with a safety-first mindset. A recent SPR project (24-56-3) uncovered a significant disconnect between mid-level management and the safety program. As such, Cabinet staff would benefit significantly from a short course training program that educates district safety coordinators and mid-level managers on the safety program, empowers them to take ownership of safety-related issues, and positions them to lead their employees toward a safer and healthier workplace.
