Guidance for Incorporating Work Zone Data within Traffic Management Operations

The objective of this project is to evaluate and develop methods for integrating connected temporary traffic control devices (cTTCD) data within transportation agency operations via an advanced traffic management system (ATMS) or similar system. The research team will document the existing types of cTTCDs in terms of the state-of-the-practice for agency use, including the purpose and need for tying this to an ATMS or similar system. Using the cTTCD data, the research team will develop and report on methods for utilizing these data for both real-time and historical analysis. Additionally, methods currently being used for integrating the connected devices will be analyzed with noteworthy practices highlighted as well as overall guidance provided specific to practical agency data integration.
