Deck Reinforcement Detailing and Concrete Mix Additives to Reduce Bridge Deck Cracking
In order to help extend the life of bridges, four issues relating to deck cracking will be investigated in this project: (1) causes of tension in the longitudinal direction in the concrete deck; (2) design criteria for top longitudinal bars in the deck; (3) deck reinforcement layout (spacing, whether transverse or longitudinal bars are closer to surface, cover); and (4) concrete mix design for decks that may reduce cracking potential.
