Intermediate Bents-Calculation of Restraint Factor
Currently Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) designs intermediate bents with prestressed concrete superstructures as a cantilever for longitudinal forces. In reality they are at least partially restrained and not able to rotate significantly. MoDOT wishes to examine if this results in a significant overdesign. The research will result in a recommendation for design factors.
