Identify Mapping Techniques of Invasive Plant Species within the MDOT Right-of-Way (ROW)

Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) roadways provide habitat and migration corridors for invasive species. Invasive species can create obstacles to routine road maintenance, can jeopardize MDOT’s compliance with state and federal environmental regulations, and occasionally pose a health risk to maintenance and construction workers. Routine activities such as mowing, plowing, and grading can create additional opportunities for invasive species to spread within MDOT rights-of-way and to neighboring properties. Proper location identification (mapping) of invasive species helps MDOT effectively monitor invasive species, contain their spread, and manage roadway vegetation to discourage invasive species promote preferable species
