Assessment of Modeling Framework for Micromobility

The objectives of this research project are as follows: (1) to better understand the patterns of micromobility usage and demand, in terms of trip origins and destinations, trip purposes, travel time and distances, and route choices, and thus to offer insightful guidance to Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), metropolitan planning organizations (MPOs), and local government agencies to better design and promote micromobility programs and facilities, in terms of micromobility lanes/routes, docking stations, and geofenced areas, and to better inform micromobility policies and regulations, etc.; (2) to identify the relationship between micromobility and public transportation, that is, under what conditions the micromobility is complement to transit service, and under what conditions the micromobility is competing with transit services; and (3) to examine the pros and cons of the classic modelling frameworks like traditional four-step transportation demand model and tour-based model to model micromobility services, and to make informed recommendations about the most appropriate modeling framework to model micromobility services to facilitate micromobility facility planning.
