Transportation Research Synthesis: Transportation Options and VMT Reduction Field Scan
MnDOT and other state and local agencies throughout Minnesota are collectively working to reduce the environmental impacts of transportation. To do this, agencies must understand steps their partners are already taking and ways to collaborate and coordinate those efforts. This research project will provide a foundational understanding for MnDOT to begin working more closely with those partners for their mutual benefit (particularly in coordinating transportation and land use decision-making). This study will rely on: 1) a literature and grey resource review, and 2) a partner survey with targeted interviews. The work will directly impact MnDOT’s ability to coordinate with partners in meeting ambitious environmental goals, and it will ultimately benefit Minnesota residents by lowering the environmental impacts of transportation and providing more diverse and equitable travel options.
