National Traffic Safety Survey
This project will obtain nationally representative data related to seat belts, distracted driving, new and emerging vehicle technologies, and traffic safety and enforcement attitudes to conduct problem identification, inform the development of effective traffic safety countermeasures, and better understand equity issues in traffic safety. It will conduct a nationally representative survey of a randomly selected sample of adults (residents aged 18 years or older) on their attitudes, knowledge, behavior and awareness of traffic safety issues surrounding a core set of behaviors as well as four modules focusing on seat belts, distracted driving, new and emerging transportation technologies such as Advanced Driver Assistance Systems and Automated Driving Systems, and traffic safety and enforcement attitudes. This project includes the option to conduct a second administration two years after the first administration. A final report documenting the methods and results of the survey administration as well as a dataset and appropriate meta-data (codebooks, data dictionaries, etc.) will be made available to the public upon completion of the project.
