Leveraging Crowd-sourced Data in Planning, Design, Analysis, and Evaluation of Pedestrian and Bicycle Traffic

Collecting data on the number of people walking or bicycling along or across Michigan’s vast transportation network is difficult to achieve, it can be time consuming and expensive. However, knowing the numbers of people walking or bicycling would be immensely useful in project planning, design, analysis, and evaluation of the transportation network for safety and accessibility among other measures. This research will help improve the assessment of the pedestrian and bicycle traffic exposure and help make informed decisions when planning, designing, and evaluating projects.
