NCHRP Implementation Support Program. Implementation of NCHRP Domestic Scan Report 16-02: Leading Landscape Design Practices for Cost-Effective Roadside Water Management
One of the recommendations of NCHRP Domestic Scan 16-02 is regarding information development and sharing. While there is considerable information on green infrastructure and stormwater management, there has not been a national effort to create a community of practice nor collaborate among the related topical committees at TRB and at AASHTO. A national-level workshop will provide the opportunity to share the scan’s findings and provide a forum for participants to discuss and plan the creation of a community of practice. This project will conduct a national-level (virtual) workshop that will be used to implement key findings of the scan which are documented in the final scan report. The meeting will also be used to discuss how to sustain a national effort to further implementation activities by holding focused discussions on updating the AASHTO Guidelines for Vegetation Management March 2011, redefining GI related roles at state DOTs, plans for a national online hub and formalizing a community of practice for green infrastructure, stormwater, roadside water management, pollinators and related topic areas. The proposed workshop will provide an opportunity for a structured information exchange among state DOTs across the country and give participants the opportunity to share leading practices in this area and identify ways to implement recommendations at their own state agencies and develop focus groups for specific areas and information gaps. The forum will also allow for participants to develop the framework for a national approach for green infrastructure implementation.
