Synthesis of Information Related to Highway Practices. Topic 54-06. Ancillary Asset Data Stewardship and Data Models

The objective of this synthesis is to document state DOT current practices related to data models and data stewardship of ancillary assets. Information to be gathered includes (but is not limited to): (1) Which assets state DOTs are collecting; (2) Incorporation of asset data in TAMPs; (3) Responsibilities for data collection and stewardship; (4) Quality control and confidence level requirements; (4) The asset data life cycle management process (e.g., collection, maintenance, update, refresh cycle); (5) Asset data models and/or data dictionaries being used; and (6) How cross-functional asset data collection and data stewardship initiatives are funded. Information will be gathered through a literature review, a survey of state DOTs, and follow-up interviews with selected agencies for the development of case examples. Information gaps and suggestions for research to address those gaps will be identified.
