Optimal Approach for Addressing Reinforcement Corrosion for Concrete Bridge Decks in Illinois - Phase II
This project aims to expand the scope of the framework developed during the Illinois Center for Transportation and Illinois Department of Transportation project, R27-SP49. The expanded framework will include both textured epoxy-coated and stainless-steel clad carbon core bars as corrosion-resistant alternatives. The project also aims to further assess the potential structural performance benefits when utilizing the increased yield strength of ASTM A1035 bars as part of the framework. This project will expand (in addition to the original version developed as part of ICT-IDOT project R27-SP49) the optimal approach framework for selecting reinforcement types for concrete bridges to facilitate enhanced corrosion performance and cost-benefit characteristics. A series of case studies/examples will also be provided to demonstrate use of the optimal approach and facilitate ease of implementation into design practice for IDOT engineers and officials, or outside consultants. Lastly, the results of the project will be used by IDOT to develop and implement IDOT policy on the subject matter.
