Development and Demonstration of a Novel Red Light Running Warning System

The purpose of this project is to develop a red-light running warning system (RLRWS) and demonstrate it on the TH-55 connected corridor. The research team will first develop and test the RLRWS in simulation before activating it in actual vehicles driven on TH-55. DSRC receivers with global positioning system (GPS) chips will be used to receive SPaT information, which will be processed in real-time in a laptop computer, with warnings displayed when appropriate. Warnings will be given both for individual vehicles approaching a signal light and for vehicles following a platoon through an intersection.
