Synthesis of Information Related to Airport Practices. Topic S03-18. Airport Economic Impact Study

Many airport economic impact studies have been completed in the past 20 years. These studies are used as one indicator of the growth and sustainability of the aviation industry as a whole, and as key data to demonstrate the importance of an airport, or group of airports, economic growth of a state, region, or county. Currently an economic impact study for an airport or group of airports may not be effectively leveraged to its potential for demonstrating how the airport contributes to economic growth. It would be helpful to have a collection of best practices for presenting study results, success stories of the results of sharing economic impact data, and feedback on how studies are received by recipients to both intended and unintended audiences.   The objective of this research is to provide information on howairport economic impact studies have been communicated and implemented, and the effects of this to the agencies and airports that financed the studies. The audience for this research are airport staff and agencies involved with producing and communicating airport economic impact reports.
