SPR-4652: Synthesis Study on Best Practices of Cleaning Tools & Paving Equipment

High adhesion of Hot mix asphalt (HMA) engenders a concern that HMA sticks tightly to truck beds and paving equipment so that workers need to clean and remove asphalts from those surfaces. Although diesel is illegal and has many related safety and environmental concerns, workers still have a preference to use it owing to its effectiveness. Therefore, alternatives should be investigated for replacing diesel. To address this, this project aims to narrow the lists of available and approved Asphalt Release Agents (ARA) and Cleaners (AC) down based on quantitative and qualitative factors and to provide INDOT with a final list of ARAs and ACs that can be evaluated through field testing.
