A Prototype Data Dashboard for Transportation, Environment and Community Health

The objective of this project is to develop a customizable, scalable, standalone prototype data dashboard for visualization of transportation, environment, and community health data. Using El Paso as an example, the research will demonstrate how the selected data layers may be intersected to visualize and analyze the relationships between the transportation, environment, and community health. This project will deliver a data dashboard that operates in a laptop computer. Included in the dashboard are different transportation, environment, and community health data collected for the City/County of El Paso. The aim is not to develop a product for the El Paso region but to use El Paso data to (1) develop a proof-of-concept prototype; (2) engage potential end users; and (3) perform meaningful scenario analysis through data integration and visualization. The dashboard will be a centralized depository for the different transportation, environment, and community health data collected data collected in a municipality. The idea of a dashboard is not new, but the collection of transportation, environment, and community health in one database, and the use of 3D visualization gives analysts a convenient tool to study the relationships of the indicators across disciplines. This advantage should encourage public and private organizations to adopt this approach. The potential impact of this project is not with the dashboard or data delivered. The impact will come from the findings of the analysis of the data which may lead to city-wide or regional policy changes.
