Land Use Analysis on Vertiports Based on a Case Study of the San Francisco Bay Area

In this research, the research team focuses on a land use study of vertiport planning. Vertiports are an emerging and special land use category. They will require available land with safe clearance, political support, equitable community acceptance, and compatible zoning. General plans and zoning ordinances in California have yet to adopt vertiport use classifications due to limited existing data. In this research, the team will first complete an extensive literature review, followed by an in-depth case study based on San Francisco Bay Area, and then make recommendations on both general land use policies for vertiport planning and a template for future land use studies in other regions in California. Based on the literature review and in-depth case study, the team will make recommendations regarding vertiport land use policies for local governments in California. In addition, for future vertiport land use studies in other regions.
