SPR-4634: Investigating Consistency among Bridge Inspectors Using Simulated Virtual Reality Testbed

Benefit: The research team is proposing to develop virtual reality (VR)-based modules where trainees will be engaged in realistic scenarios for rehabilitation and maintenance decision-making. The immersive experience affords better engagement with the training environment. Technical staff can thoroughly practice and sharpen their skills without being concerned about typical hazard that real world training may incur. Deliverable: A software to be used with a VR headset that will provide a training platform for Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) inspection crew. Inspectors will be exposed to various bridge inspection scenarios and their performance will be evaluated quantitatively.
