Analyzing the Prospects of Hydrogen as a Clean Energy Carrier for the Transportation Sector
This research analyzes the life cycle costs of fuel-cell trucks vis a vis battery operated and conventional diesel trucks. The researchers also investigated techno-commercial evaluation of low carbon scenarios in California, with an increasing share of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles in the transportation sector. The study forecasts the number of hydrogen production and refueling facilities that need to be built in California for such scenarios. The study also analyzed different supply chain pathways for hydrogen in the transportation sector. The researchers conducted a policy comparison study of different hydrogen-based economies, to understand areas of policy emphasis and identify avenues that require policy interventions. Additionally a spatial optimization study to identify locations for installing hydrogen refueling infrastructure and perform system level analysis to optimize the adoption of hydrogen across the energy value chain was conducted.
