Evaluation of Midblock Pedestrian Signals (MPS)

This project is to conduct extensive evaluation analysis to understand the effectiveness of midblock pedestrian signals (MPS). Based on the analysis at 27 study sites, there are two main objectives to be fulfilled as discussed above. Basically, the research will achieve the following: (1) the project will comprehensively evaluate the effectiveness of MPS for the immediate and longer-term periods after installation; and (2) the project will use emerging technologies to collect extensive data regarding traffic operational effects, safety benefits, pedestrians’ crossing behaviors, and drivers’ compliance of yielding to pedestrians with different pedestrian crossing enhancement countermeasures.
