Assessing and Communicating the Economic and Quality of Life Benefits of Transportation Infrastructure Investments

NCHRP Project 23-01, completed in April 2020, presented evidence-based messaging for state transportation agencies to raise public awareness of the economic and quality of life benefits of transportation infrastructure investments. The study produced an illustrated guide with suggested messages and strategies for integrating the messages into both routine agency communications and specialized campaigns. The objectives of this research are to (a) refine and present the messages in sample communications materials, (b) market test the messages using virtual focus groups or surveys, and (c) present the results in a report for agency communications practitioners.
