Developing an Online Interstate Lane Closure Guide and Work Zone Capacity Analysis for the Wichita, Kansas Metropolitan Area
The primary objective of this research project is to develop an online lane closure guide for the Wichita, Kansas, metropolitan area. The new lane closure guide will be based on WICHway traffic operations data which the research team will work with TranSystems to extract. Secondary objectives are to investigate the quality of data and also evaluate and provide guidance on how to evaluate the capacity of work zone capacity data for the metropolitan area in accordance with the 2016 Highway Capacity Manual. Additionally, the research team will work with TranSystems and Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) to develop a methodology to update the new lane closure guide as traffic conditions continue to change with new infrastructure in the metropolitan area.
