SPR-4527: Shear and Bearing Capacity of Corroded Steel Beam Bridges and Effects on Load Rating
The objective of this study is to establish the relationship between the residual shear and bearing capacities of corroded steel beams and load rating of steel beam bridges. The final proposed deliverable is a material strength modification factor that can be used for load rating of corroded steel beam bridges in the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) database. This modification factor will be implemented in INDOT’s use of the load rating software, and a simple manual will be provided for using it efficiently. Additionally, AASHTO-Ready draft specifications will be proposed based on the research results.
