Incorporating Resilience Considerations in Transportation Planning, TSMO and Asset Management
This project will develop and apply approaches for implementing resilience efficiently across Georgia’s transportation system – the organization, Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT), its institutions – policies, business processes, plans and procedures, and the physical transportation system, including its smart components. The project involves a three‐pronged approach: (1) Workforce training on the principles and applications of resilience; (2) co‐producing with agency staff resilience‐enhancing policies, business processes, plans and procedures; and, (3) development, application and implementation of tools and technologies to enhance the resilience of the physical transportation system, including its cyber components, and the agency. Learning how to invest in resilience efficiently is a necessary skill (Allenby & Chester 2020b). This project will develop the capabilities and tools to enable GDOT to make efficient investments in resilience. Further, as system resilience cannot be developed in isolation from key partners, the research team will work with the Resilience Committee to coordinate in‐house resilience initiatives with those of key partners. These include the Atlanta Regional Commission, Georgia Regional Transportation Authority-State Road and Tollway Authority, The Atlanta‐region Transit Link Authority, Metropolitan Atlanta Regional Transit Authority (MARTA), the City of Atlanta Department of Transportation and other key partners.
