Developing the Procedures for Welding, Testing, and Fabricating Weathering Stainless-Steel to Merge the Scope of the Current AASHTO/AWS D1.5 Bridge Welding Code with the AWS DF1.6 Stainless Steel Welding Code
The primary goal of this project is to develop procedures for the safe welding, testing, repairing, and fabrication of weathering stainless-steel that remains consistent with the AASHTO/AWS D1.5 Bridge Welding Code. It is anticipated that if this project is successful, the results should provide enough information to be used in the development of a Florida Sampling and Test Method (Florida Method), be considered for inclusion in a future version of the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Steel Fabrication Specifications, identify type of bridge steel components suitable for the available weathering stainless steel, and allow the Department to specify weathering stainless-steel in bridge applications.
