The Committee of Right of Way, Utilities and Outdoor Advertising (CRUO), Technical Subcommittee on Utilities (TSU) has been charged to review and update the following AASHTO documents: Policy on the Accommodation of Utilities within Freeway Right-of-Way (2005) and Guide for Accommodating Utilities within Highway Right-of-Way (2005). The TSU recognizes that these documents are similar in subject matter is endeavoring to merge them and update the language therein. The first attempt to merge and update the documents is pending, with the support of the Utility Technical Councils. The TSU plans, with the approval of the CRUO committee, to enlist the assistance of a team to review the changes proposed, recommend other changes pursuant to a review of pertinent research in place, and convene a panel of experts to vet the final product. The TSU requests the panel of experts be sourced from within itself and include public sector, private sector, and academia to ensure that the final document produced for publication is widely acceptable and valuable to AASHTO member states.
