Prioritized Safety Consideration by Work Zone Types and Pilot Implementation
The goal of this project is to prioritize safety consideration by work zone types and apply SWZ systems and technologies to effectively improve work zone safety and reduce work zone related fatalities, injuries and crashes in Florida. The major objectives of the research project are to: (1) Understand the contribution factors and major causes of work zone crashes and quantify work zone crashes by work zone types. (2) Identify effective and innovative SWZ applications and strategies to improve or enhance work zone safety. (3) Develop robust evaluation, SWZ implementation and data collection plans. (4) Successfully implement SWZ applications and strategies via pilot studies to effectively reduce vehicle speeds and speed variance in work zone areas to improve work zone safety. (5) Document pilot study results and research findings, and provide recommendations on how to prioritize safety consideration by work zone types and apply SWZ systems and technologies.
