Correlation between Work Zone Exposure and Work Zone-Related Fatal and A-Injury Crashes

The purpose of this research is to more clearly quantify and report yearly trends on work zone crashes and injuries with an emphasis on fatal and injury A crashes (K-A crashes) with respect to traffic volumes, length, duration, type of work zone, and other variables as needed. The purpose is also to develop prediction tools, such as safety performance functions (SPFs) and/or crash modification factors to assess safety aspects of work zones which will enable IDOT to make progress towards achieving zero fatalities in work zones.
