Plans for Tracking IDEAS and Developing Transit IDEA Marketing and Communications

The Transit Cooperative Research Program (TCRP) is an applied research program that develops near-term, practical solutions to problems facing public transportation. TCRP is sponsored by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and works in partnership with the American Public Transportation Association (APTA). The Transportation Research Board (TRB), a division of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, manages TCRP. Since 1992, TCRP’s Transit Innovations Deserving Exploratory Analysis (IDEA) program has funded innovations to improve efficiency, safety, security, maintenance, and ridership of transit systems. The Transit IDEA program aim is to foster the development and application of innovative technologies, methods, devices, and systems that advance transit practice. The awarded projects are early stage, promising but unproven concepts. Two types of projects are eligible for IDEA funds up to $100,000: proof-of-concept projects (demonstrate the validity of concepts) and prototype projects (develop and test prototypes of proven concepts). The project will develop a plan for marketing and communications (M&C) for Transit IDEA and report that captures the impact of the transit innovation projects - creating a Transit IDEA innovation story.
