IoT Home Transportation & Trip Substitution Services

Recent technological developments around home sensors, devices and services are making it increasingly possible to forego using different modes of transportation to get things done. With the home becoming a platform for various technologies and services, it is now possible for consumers of various characteristics and abilities to get many things done without having to get to places. This study will survey a national panel of online adults – varying in demographic characteristics, technology experience, driving behavior and transportation use, and health and caregiving status – to map various tasks with methods, and to understand needs and how they are met or unmet by different technology or service alternatives. The findings from the research will inform design and development of future services, and identify the challenges and opportunities facing the future of transportation.
