New Carbon Fiber Anchor to Secure CFRP Flexural and Shear Strengthening Sheets

The objective of this research is to qualify a new anchorage system that can be applied to structural repair and strengthening of bridge decks, girders, piers and retaining walls. An experimental program is proposed in which typical reinforced concrete T beams will be constructed and strengthened with externally bonded flexural CFRP alone and secured with the new anchors. In addition, typical reinforced concrete rectangular beams will be built and strengthened with externally bonded shear CFRP U-wraps alone and secured with the new anchors at strategic locations away from the concrete strut line. Experimental testing will reveal the effectiveness of the new anchors to safeguard the flexural CFRP of the T beams and the shear U-wraps of the rectangular beams against debonding and bond deterioration by providing mechanical anchorage to the repair system.
