Safety Performance Metrics for Decision Making
In this research, a supplementary metric or metrics will be developed to assess the speed related component of safety and relate this to design elements and the roadway context, enabling Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) to identify high-risk areas as well as treatments associated with high association between design speed and operating speed. Roadway speed measures may include average operating speed, operating speed distributions, speed variability measures (e.g. average minus ninety-fifth percentile), difference between posted and operating speeds, etc.
