Development of MASH Test Level 3 (TL-3) Compliant Transition between Median Guardrail and Median Concrete Barrier
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is moving to implement MASH compliant safety hardware. This is a great step forward in terms of enhancing the safety of Texas roadways. TxDOT has already developed a MASH TL-3 median guardrail barrier; however, this system will not work alone unless it is connected to compliant median concrete barrier. There is a safety need for developing a transition between the two systems. The project objectives are: [1.] Review the designs of the MASH median barriers, both concrete and W-beam systems. [2.] Develop candidate designs of the needed transition. [3.] Conduct testing on candidate designs. [4.] Evaluate the most effective candidate design using the full-scale crash tests.
