Evaluating the Performance of Pavement Surface Treatments on Arizona Highways

The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is developing a pavement management forecasting system to forecast pavement conditions, i.e. when, where, and what type of deterioration will occur. However, a systematic approach to monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness and efficiency of pavement treatment techniques could produce data to enhance ADOT's ability to make evidence-based decisions on pavement techniques, potentially leading to improved pavement performance. This study will develop a framework for ADOT to implement long-term monitoring and evaluation of pavement surface treatments. The study will develop an analytical method for determining the effectiveness and efficiency of various pavement treatments. It will also determine how data from the research may eventually enhance output from the pavement management and forecasting system.
