Evaluating the Performance of Pavement Surface Treatments on Arizona Highways

The research study will develop a framework for Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) to implement a long-term monitoring and evaluation study of pavement surface treatments. The objectives are: (1) Conduct a literature search of recent methods, guidance, and practices used to measure the effectiveness and efficiency of pavement surface treatments. (2) Develop criteria for selecting monitoring sites, establish baseline data for those sites, and use the criteria to recommend which sites to monitor in the future. (3) Develop an analytical method for determining the effectiveness and efficiency of treatments. The method would be implemented in a separate effort following the completion of this research. (4) Determine how data generated from the research may enhance output of the pavement management and forecasting system presently under development.
