Quality Control/Assurance on Base Course and Embankment with the Dynamic Cone Penetrometer
The objective of this research is to determine if and how the LADOTD can utilize the dynamic cone penetrometer (DCP) as an acceptance tool for stone base course and other, likely unbound, soil layers like embankment. The research will compare the DCP to the NDG for technical accuracy, precision, and consistency. The research will conduct field testing to establish appropriate quality assurance procedures for the LADOTD. This research has a goal of leading to improvements in safety and efficiency by reducing the dependency of the department upon nuclear devices.
