Long-Term Performance Evaluation of Stabilized Sediments, Beneficial-Use, Projects
The primary objective of the proposed study is to evaluate the long-term performance of projects where stabilized dredged materials have been used to augment and/or replace borrowed materials – “beneficial-use applications”. The study focuses on the performance of a limited number of signature projects in NJ, where pioneering beneficial use were carried out following the ban on ocean disposal of contaminated sediments in 1997. It is anticipated that the outcome of the proposed study will help better understand long-term performance and behavior of stabilized sediments under service conditions and help with improvements on both stabilization schemes and project design protocols and guidelines. The intended outcome of the project is to help dredged material managers better understand long-term performance and behavior of stabilized sediments under service conditions and help with improvements on both stabilization schemes and project design protocols and guidelines.
