Clear Roads II: Integrating Advanced Technologies into Winter Operations Decisions

This project will prepare a comprehensive guide to best management practices and a blueprint for the future of winter maintenance and operations. There are many new technologies to evaluate road conditions and measure response; what is needed is a guide to how these technologies and the parameters they collect should be used to inform decision making. The scope of this project includes description of the available technologies; which of these are being used and where; what the technologies measure; how to integrate the technologies into a successful winter operations strategy; and how to incorporate future technologies such as connected vehicles and advanced sensors. Clear Roads is an ongoing pooled fund research project and will fund and oversee the contract for this project in coordination with the lead state.
