Risk-Based Construction Inspection
At KYTC, allocating construction inspection resources within section offices is becoming more challenging due to workforce reductions and loss of experienced staff. To meet inspection demands it is important to prioritize inspections based on risk. While this has previously been accomplished through KYTC’s seasoned workforce, the number of experienced staff is declining. Additionally, prioritized inspections for consultant inspection staff must be communicated when used. Other DOTs have developed similar guidance, but theirs cannot be applied directly to KYTC. This project will develop a system and guidance for risk-based construction inspection (RBCI) in Kentucky by building on a current NCHRP research project related to construction inspection staffing.
