Developing Knowledge Management Strategies

Retirements and staff changes have led to a loss of institutional knowledge across public agencies. This highlights the importance of knowledge management and the retention of core knowledge bases. Gaining insight into knowledge management and developing organizational knowledge management processes and programs requires understanding the various approaches. Experiences from organizations that have developed knowledge management programs can inform potential efforts. After knowledge management is evaluated in the context of an organization, steps can be taken to develop, implement, and monitor a knowledge management program. This study will explore knowledge management strategies and identify effective methods and processes that can assist organizations in retaining, storing, and disseminating knowledge.
