Straight Steel I-Girder Bridges with Skew Index Approaching 0.3

The objective of this research is to better understand the behavior of steel I-girder bridges with skew indices approaching 0.3. This includes the magnitude of their cross-frame forces, the flange lateral bending stresses and layovers. Part of the research project is to confirm that a 1D line girder analysis can adequately calculate the major axis bending stresses and vertical displacements for a straight steel I-girder bridge with a skew index less than or equal to 0.3, allowing revisions to the current requirement for a 2D grid or 3D finite element analysis for design.
