Evaluation of Innovative Alternative Intersection Designs in the Development of Safety Performance Functions and Crash Modification Factors

The objectives of this project are: (1) The project will comprehensively review the best practices of alternative intersection design in the United States. (2) The project will develop safety performance functions (SPFs) and crash modification factors (CMFs) for alternative intersection design (i.e., CF, MUT, and Jughandle Intersections) based on the collected data. (3) Comprehensive traffic safety diagnosis for rear-end crashes will be conducted, and possible countermeasures suggested. (4) Recommendations will be provided for Florida Intersection Control Evaluation as related to objectives 1 - 3.
