Impacts of Connected Vehicles and Automated Vehicles on State and Local Transportation Agencies--Task-Order Support. Readiness Assessment of Operational Data Environment Software in the ITS CodeHub

The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) has funded work to develop prototype connected vehicle (CV) applications. These prototypes are now available for the public to reuse on the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) CodeHub (https://its.dot.gov/code/ and https://its.dot.gov/code/code-repositories.html). The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) provides support services for any connected automated vehicle (CAV) technology and software at CAVSupportServices@dot.gov. State DOTs and local agencies that wish to reuse these applications and integrate their capabilities into other existing systems need guidance on the readiness of these applications for deployment, in particular to more realistically evaluate the requirements, challenges, resolutions, and the costs of integration of these tools with other DOT systems, software, and databases. The use of these applications and software also has readiness implications for the agency itself – whether it has the data and other resources needed to support the implementation of open-source assets. There is a need to aid state DOTs and local agencies to evaluate the readiness of operational data environment (ODE) software for deployment. The objective of this research is to develop an easy-to-follow report that can be used as a resource by agencies to evaluate the readiness of ODE software for deployment. The research shall include conducting a real-world case study of the CV ODE software from the ITS CodeHub to identify applicable insights and lessons learned from deploying agencies to assist state DOTs and local agencies evaluating the readiness of the ITS CodeHub software for reuse.
