Ramp Metering Impact Study with Potential Regional Deployment Within the Dallas-Fort Worth Ozone Nonattainment Area

The Performing Agency shall investigate deploying ramp metering in the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) Metroplex to alleviate freeway traffic congestion and improve air quality. The Performing Agency shall begin by identifying freeway corridors and ramp locations which meet necessary design and traffic conditions criteria for ramp metering and candidate ramp metering strategies. Then, the Performing Agency shall conduct detailed analysis of case studies – candidate ramp metering strategies in selected corridors – using a combination of regional-level dynamic traffic assignment and simulation modeling, corridor-level microscopic simulation, and corridor (project) level emissions modeling. The Performing Agency shall use the results from these models to identify where and to which extent ramp metering should be deployed in the selected corridors.
