Enhancing Road Weather Management during Wildfires and Flash Floods through New Data Collection, Sharing, and Public Dissemination Technologies

There are two primary objectives for this project. The first objective is to collect and catalogue data and data sources from TxDOT and other Texas State emergency management agencies that support network management for safety and continued mobility of people, products and services before, during and after wildfire and flash floods events. Also included in this objective is the development of a cost benefit analysis for collecting data using mobile sensing, remote sensing, social media, and fixed sensors. The second objective is to identify nation-wide best practices and synthesize feedback from stakeholders to provide information dissemination techniques and methodologies allowing TxDOT to determine the best use in leveraging new data and new technologies. Also included in this objective is the development of mitigation strategies for challenges and limitations in accessing and using relevant information before, during and after these events.
