Implementation of Centrifuge Technology for Clay Stabilization and Equipment Deployment

The specific objectives of this project include: (1) development of testing protocols for lime-stabilized soil samples into the centrifuge testing environment; (2) generation of a database concerning the effect on swelling of different lime dosages for prevalent Texas expansive clays; (3) implementation of a field-monitoring program involving the long-term quantification of vertical rise and associated changes in soil moisture in lime- stabilized and control pavement sections; (4) incorporating the use of lime- stabilized centrifuge test results into the current PVR design methodology; (5) procurement, construction, and calibration of pilot centrifuge equipment; and (6) development and implementation of a training program focusing on the operation of centrifuge equipment, collection of data and interpretation of results.
