Clear Roads: Quantifying the Impact that New Capital Projects Will Have on Roadway Snow and Ice Control Operations

The goal of the project is to develop an automated method of quantifying the anticipated impact that new capital projects will have on costs for winter maintenance. This method could be used in the early stages of project development to determine if an agency will need additional resources, such as trucks, salt, fuel, and manpower, to provide winter maintenance after the project is completed, or could aid maintenance managers in justifying requests for additional resources after projects are complete. An Excel-based decision support tool will be developed to calculate the financial impact of capital improvements on snow and ice control operations. See also http://clearroads.org/project/14-02/.
