Portable Multi-Sensor System for Intersection Safety Performance Assessment

This research will develop a portable system to be carried to high risk sites (irrespective of freeway vs. intersection) for traffic conflict data collection. It is planned to have it as a fusion of Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) and multi-camera system which will allow increase in accuracy significantly in collecting data. The system will be designed to be battery operated with the ability to collect one weeks worth of data locally. With additional funding in the following years, the system will be deployed on multiple sites and information collected and their correlation with crashes will be evaluated.
