Fatigue Evaluation of Reinforced and Unreinforced Hand Holes in Light Poles
The objective of this project is to develop a more comprehensive set of design guides that is based on appropriate sizes of specimens (representative of the roadway lighting poles with smaller diameters). Research Tasks include the following: Task 1: Literature review and a matrix of specimens to be considered; Task 2: Develop finite element (FE) models of the suggested specimens for preliminary study; Task 3: Conduct experimental fatigue tests on the selected details; Task 4: Calibrate the developed FE models and conduct parametric study; Task 5: Develop design guidelines; Task 6: Submit the final report and propose revisions to The Load and Resistance; and Factor Design (LRFD) Specifications for Structural Supports for Highway Signs, Luminaires, and Traffic Signals (LRFD SLTS) -2nd Edition.
