Evaluate ODOT's Current Berm Compaction Process For Cost Effective Alternatives
The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) is seeing an increase truck traffic from exploration and development. It is taking a toll on berms in the radius turns and maintenance crews from Monroe and Vinton County are required to fix the berms in a timely manner. This research will be conducted in two phases. The goal of Phase 1 is to conduct an in depth analysis of ODOT's current process for berm compaction and provide recommendations on how to improve safety, production and cost effectiveness. The research team will work closely with ODOT District 10, Monroe and Vinton County maintenance crews. It will conduct a comprehensive look at how ODOT currently performs berm compaction and will provide recommendations on how to increase safety, efficiency and decrease costs. An analysis of the historical data and past practices will also be provided. Phase 2 will perform in-field analysis of approved methods and/or equipment from Phase 1 and is contingent upon the successful completion of Phase 1 and the written authorization of the ODOT Research Section.
