Bald Eagle Nesting During Construction

The objective of the project are to: (1) duplicate Alaska Department of Transportation and Publci Facilities (ADOT&PF) survey of “impact” nests (permitted nests) in control area. The control area will hopefully be a similar stretch of roadway beyond the project limits; (2) record global positioning system (GPS) coordinates for all (control and impact) nests surveyed; (3) use T-test to measure differences in occupancy, productivity, and fidelity between groups. The United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) works with in-house biometrician to make sure methodology is accurate; and (4) Use logistic regression to determine at what distance activities impact nest occupancy, productivity, and fidelity. The specific tasks of the project are to: (1) schedule additional flight time during survey to locate and survey control nests; (2) nvite USFWS to accompany flight to ensure correct control selection, survey methodology; (3) repeat survey of project and control during second survey (2016-2018); and (4) compile data.
